이문세(李文世)는 대한민국의 대중음악인으로, 1959년 2월 24일(음력 1월 17일)에 서울특별시에서 태어났습니다. 1978년에 CBS 세븐틴 DJ로 데뷔하여 라디오 DJ로 활동하였습니다. 입담이 뛰어나며 1970년대 한국음악의 기반이었던 통기타 포크 팝 음악 분야에서 시작하여 1980년대에는 팝 발라드 음악계로 진출하며 가수로서의 첫걸음을 내디딥니다.

이문세는 1983년에는 "나는 행복한 사람"이라는 곡을 발표하고, 1984년에는 2집 앨범 "파랑새"로 인지도를 쌓아갔습니다. 그러나 그의 가수로서의 성공은 1985년 작곡가 이영훈과의 만남을 통해 빛을 발하게 되었습니다. 이영훈과의 협업으로 준비한 "난 아직 모르잖아요"라는 곡이 폭발적인 인기를 얻어 그해 방송 순위 1위에 올라가며 인기 가수로 이름을 올렸습니다. 이를 계기로 이문세-이영훈의 콤비는 80년대 가요계에 팝 발라드의 파동을 일으키게 되었습니다.

1987년 발표한 4집 앨범 수록곡들이 대중에게 널리 알려져 높은 판매고를 올리면서 발라드 가수로서의 인기를 굳혔습니다. 1993년부터는 이영훈과의 이별을 통해 자신만의 독자적인 음악세계를 탐색하기 위한 발판을 마련하였으며, 이런 변화에도 불구하고 1990년대 이후 한국 가요계의 변화와 인기 장르의 변화 때문인지 명성있는 가수로만 인식되는 하강세를 겪기도 했습니다. 그러나 이문세는 가수로서의 활동 중에도 다른 분야의 활동을 소홀히 하지 않았으며 현재까지도 가수이자 음악가로써 꾸준히 활약하고 있습니다.

또한, 청소년들을 대상으로 한 라디오 프로그램인 "별이 빛나는 밤에"의 진행자로 수년간 활약하였으며, 1990년대 초반에는 '밤의 교육부 장관'으로 불리기도 했습니다.

Lee Moon Sae is a popular South Korean musician, born on February 24, 1959 (January 17th according to the lunar calendar) in Seoul. He made his debut as a radio DJ for CBS Seventeen in 1978, showcasing his sharp wit and becoming a prominent figure in the guitar-based folk pop music scene of the 1970s. In the 1980s, he transitioned to the pop ballad genre, taking his first steps as a singer.

In 1983, Lee Moon Sae released the song "I Am a Happy Person," followed by his second album "Bluebird" in 1984, which helped him gain recognition among the younger audience. His breakthrough as a singer came in 1985 when he met the composer Lee Young-hoon. Their collaboration on the song "I Still Don't Know" became a massive hit, reaching the top spot on music charts and solidifying his position as a popular singer. The partnership between Lee Moon Sae and Lee Young-hoon brought a wave of pop ballads to the 1980s Korean music scene.

In 1987, Lee Moon Sae released his fourth album, which included several widely recognized songs, further cementing his popularity and achieving high sales figures. In 1993, he parted ways with Lee Young-hoon, paving the way for him to establish his own unique musical style. Despite the changing landscape of the Korean music industry and the shifting trends in popularity during the 1990s, Lee Moon Sae continued to actively engage in various fields and maintained his status as a singer and musician.

He also had a significant presence as the host of the radio program "Starry Night," targeting young listeners, and during the early 1990s, he was even referred to as the "Minister of Night Education."
