아티스트 현철(玄哲), 본명 강상수(姜祥秀, 1942년 7월 29일)은 대한민국의 가수로 알려져 있습니다.

현철은 1942년 7월 29일에 경상남도 김해군 대저면 도도리 월포마을(현 부산광역시 강서구 대저2동)에서 태어났습니다.

1961년에 부산동성고등학교를 졸업한 후 동아대 경영학과에 수석으로 입학하였지만 이후 자퇴하고 군에 입대한 뒤, 1969년에 "무정한 그대"라는 곡으로 가요계에 데뷔하였습니다. 그러나 당시에는 남진과 나훈아가 주목받고 있어 현철은 인기를 얻지 못했습니다. 그래서 1974년에는 활동을 중단하고 고향인 부산으로 돌아가 음악 그룹 '현철과 벌떼들'을 결성하였습니다. 그룹 리더로서 팝송을 리메이크하며 열심히 활동했지만 큰 인기를 얻지 못해 오랜 무명 시절을 보냈습니다.

1980년에 그룹 '현철과 벌떼들'이 해체된 후 2년 후에 현철은 솔로 가수로 전향하였습니다. 이전 그룹에서 활동했던 곡 중 아내에게 바치는 노래인 "앉으나 서나 당신 생각"이 대중들에게 큰 인기를 얻었지만 방송 출연이 적어 여전히 무명한 가수로 알려졌습니다. 하지만 1983년에 트로트로 성향을 바꾼 후, 현철의 독특한 가창력과 트로트의 특징을 잘 살린 "사랑은 나비인가봐"를 발표하였습니다. 1984년에는 1967년에 발표된 "청춘을 돌려다오"를 리메이크하여 활동했으며, 이후 나훈아의 부탁으로 이 곡을 2인조로 부르게 되어 더욱 히트하였습니다. 1987년에는 리비아 대수로 공사현장에 공연을 갔을 때, 현철은 인기 가수 공연단에 포함되어 "

앉으나 서나 당신 생각"을 부르며 파견된 근로자들의 가족을 위로하는 자리에서 더욱 알려지게 되었습니다. 이 노래는 2014년에 미래에셋대우 광고 음악인 'Think you very much'에서 후렴구로 불리게 되었습니다.

1980년대부터 점차 인지도를 높인 현철은 1988년에 발표된 "봉선화 연정"이 가장 큰 히트를 기록하며 KBS 가요대상을 수상하였습니다. 이 노래를 작곡한 박현진은 현철이 수상소감을 말하면서 20년 동안의 힘들고 무명한 시절을 생각하며 감격의 눈물을 흘렸다고 전해지기도 했습니다.

Artist Hyun-chul and real name Kang Sang-soo (July 29, 1942) are known as South Korean singers.

Hyeoncheol was born on July 29, 1942 in Wolpo Village, Dodo-ri, Daejeo-myeon, Gimhae-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do (now Daejeo 2-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan).

After graduating from Busan Dongsung High School in 1961, he entered Dong-A University as a senior in business administration, but later dropped out and joined the military, and made his debut in the music industry in 1969 with the song "Innocent You." However, at that time, Hyun-chul was not popular because Nam-jin and Na Hoon-ah were attracting attention. So in 1974, he stopped his activities and returned to his hometown of Busan to form a music group called Hyunchul and Bees. As a group leader, I worked hard by remaking pop songs, but I did not gain much popularity, so I spent a long time in obscurity.

Two years after the group 'Hyun-chul and the Bees' disbanded in 1980, Hyun-chul turned solo. "Thinking About You While Sitting," a song dedicated to his wife among the songs he performed in the previous group, gained huge popularity among the public, but he was still known as an unknown singer due to his low broadcast appearance. However, after changing his tendency to trot in 1983, he released "Love Must Be a Butterfly," which made good use of Hyun-chul's unique singing ability and characteristics of trot. In 1984, he performed a remake of "Return Youth" released in 1967, and later, at Na Hoon-ah's request, he sang the song as a duo, which became even more successful. In 1987, when he went to the construction site by Libyan Daesu, Hyun-chul was included in the popular singer's performance group

It became more known in the place of comforting the families of the dispatched workers by singing "Thinking of You While Sitting." The song was sung as a chorus in the Mirae Asset Daewoo commercial music 'Think you very much' in 2014.

Hyun-chul, who has gradually gained popularity since the 1980s, won the KBS Song Awards with the biggest hit of "Bong Sun-hwa Yeon-jung" released in 1988. Park Hyun-jin, who composed the song, reportedly shed tears of emotion as Hyun-chul said his acceptance speech, thinking about 20 years of hard and unknown times.

After that, Hyun-chul's singing career turned around and grew into a top singer. In 1990, he won the KBS Song Awards for two consecutive years for "No, No." That year, he released a mixed duet medley, "Good job, good job" and "port medley" with Moon Hee-ok. Since 1988, Hyun-chul, along with Song Dae-kwan, Tae Jin-ah, and Seol Un-do, is known as one of the top four trot superstars, and has mainly played a decisive role in revitalizing the sluggish situation of the trot genre.
