최백호 선생님은 한국의 뛰어난 가수 및 싱어송라이터로서 잘 알려져 계십니다. 선생님의 호(號)는 산남(山南)이시고, 1950년 4월 23일에 태어났습니다.

최백호 선생님은 독립운동가이자 대한민국의 2대 국회의원으로 활약한 아버지인 최원봉 의원과 초등학교 교사로 일하시던 어머니 사이에서 태어났습니다. 막내로 자라신 선생님은 형과 누나 2분을 가지셨습니다. 그리고 선생님의 이름은 아버지인 최원봉 의원의 스승이신 김정설 선생님께서 지어주신 이름입니다.

군 복무 중인 육군 사병으로 활동하시던 중 결핵으로 인해 의병 제대하게 되셨습니다. 제대 후에는 부산 음악 살롱에서 무대 활동을 시작하셨고, 하수영 선생님과의 인연을 통해 서울로 올라와 가수로 데뷔하게 되셨습니다. 선생님의 데뷔곡인 "내 마음 갈 곳을 잃어"는 출시된 지 3개월 만에 6,000장의 판매고를 기록하며 선생님의 이름을 가요계에 알리는 계기가 되었습니다.

1978년에는 독특한 창법으로 연이은 히트 곡을 발표하며 한 해 동안에 톱 가수들과 동급으로 인기를 얻으셨습니다. 사랑과 평화, 산울림, 전영 등의 포크 록을 연주하는 그룹들과 함께 대학 가요에서 열광적인 인기를 얻으며 1979년 가요계를 선도하셨습니다. 선생님은 전성기 동안 트로트 가요를 밀어내고 새로운 풍경을 창출하는 데 큰 공헌을 하셨습니다.

김자옥 님과 이혼 후에는 여러 어려움을 겪으셨지만, 1984년에 재혼하시고 가수로서의 컴백을 이루어내셨습니다. 1987년에는 삼각산 경국사에서 가수로서의 마지막 도전을 시작하셨고, 작곡에도 전념하셨습니다. 그러나 1년 후인 1989년 1월에 미국으로 이민을 떠나시게 되셨고, 미국 로스앤젤레스에서 잠시 한인방송 라디오코리아 DJ로 활동하셨습니다.

1990년 2월에는 귀국하여 공연 관련 활동을 다시 시작하셨습니다. 1996년에는 삶의 허무함과 흘러간 시간에 대한 미련을 담은 "낭만에 대하여"라는 곡이 드라마인 "목욕탕집 남자들"에 삽입되어 선풍적인 인기를 얻으며 많은 사랑을 받으셨습니다. 오랜 기간 동안 선생님은 대중들로부터 큰 사랑을 받아오셨습니다.
