최백호(崔白虎, 1950년 4월 23일 ~ )은 대한민국의 뛰어난 가수이자 싱어송라이터로서 알려져 있습니다. 호(號)는 산남(山南)입니다.

최백호씨는 독립운동가이자 대한민국 2대 국회의원을 역임한 아버지 최원봉 의원과 초등학교 교사로 활동하던 어머니 사이에서 태어났습니다. 그는 1남 2녀 가운데 막내로 자라났습니다. 최백호의 성함은 아버지인 최원봉 의원의 스승인김정설 선생님이 지어주신 이름입니다.

대한민국 육군 사병으로 군 복무 중에 결핵으로 인해 의병 제대하게 되었습니다. 의복제대 이후에는 부산 음악 살롱에서 무대 활동을 전개하다가 하수영과의 인연을 통해 서울로 올라와 가수로 데뷔하였습니다. 그의 데뷔곡인 "내 마음 갈 곳을 잃어"는 출시된지 3개월 만에 6,000장의 판매고를 기록하여 최백호의 이름을 가요계에 알리는 계기가 되었습니다.

1978년에는 독특한 창법으로 연이은 히트 곡을 발표하며 단일년 동안에 톱 가수들과 동급으로 떠오르게 되었습니다. 인기 음악인 포크 록을 연주하는 그룹 사랑과 평화, 산울림, 전영 등과 함께 대학 가요에서 열광적인 인기를 얻으며 1979년 가요계를 선도하는 역할을 하였습니다. 그는 전성기 동안 트로트 가요를 밀어내고 새로운 바람을 일으키는 데 큰 공헌을 하였습니다.

최백호씨는 데뷔와 동시에 저력을 발휘하였으며, 1980년에는 당시 국민배우인 김자옥과 결혼하였습니다. 그의 곡인 "영일만 친구"로 TBC 방송가요대상 남자가수상을 수상하였습니다. 1983년에는 "고독"

이라는 곡으로 MBC 10대 가수상과 KBS 가요대상 남자가수상을 받아들여 정상의 위치에 오르게 되었습니다.

김자옥과 이혼한 후에는 여러 어려움을 겪었지만, 1984년에 재혼하여 가수로의 컴백을 이루었습니다. 1987년에는 삼각산 경국사에서 가수로서의 마지막 도전을 시작하였으며 작곡에도 전념하였습니다. 하지만 1년 후인 1989년 1월에 미국으로 이민을 떠나게 되었고, 미국 로스앤젤레스에서 잠시 한인방송 라디오코리아 DJ로 활동하였습니다.

1990년 2월에는 귀국하여 공연 관련 활동을 다시 시작하였습니다. 1996년에는 삶의 허무함과 흘러간 시간에 대한 미련을 담은 "낭만에 대하여"라는 곡이 드라마인 "목욕탕집 남자들"에 삽입되어 선풍적인 인기를 얻으며 많은 사랑을 받았습니다. 최백호씨는 대중들에게 오랜 기간동안 큰 사랑을 받아왔습니다.

Choi Baekho (born April 23, 1950 - ) is renowned as a talented singer and singer-songwriter from South Korea. "Ho" is his pen name, which means "Mountain South."

Choi Baekho was born to his father, Choi Won-bong, who was a independence activist and a former member of the National Assembly in South Korea, and his mother, who worked as an elementary school teacher. He grew up as the youngest of one son and two daughters. Choi Baekho's name was given to him by his father's mentor, Teacher Kim Jeong-seol.

While serving in the Korean Army as a private, he was discharged due to tuberculosis. After his military service, he began performing on stages at music salons in Busan. Through his connection with Hasu-young, he moved to Seoul and debuted as a singer. His debut song, "Nowhere to Go in My Heart," sold 6,000 copies within three months of its release, becoming a turning point in introducing Choi Baekho to the music industry.

In 1978, he released a series of hit songs with his unique singing style and rose to fame within a year, becoming one of the top singers of the time. Alongside popular folk rock groups like Saranggwa Pyeonghwa, Sanulrim, and Jeon Young, he gained enthusiastic popularity in the university music scene, leading the music industry in 1979. He made a significant contribution to pushing trot music aside during its prime and bringing about a new wave.

Choi Baekho showcased his talent from the start of his career. In 1980, he married the popular actress at the time, Kim Ja-ok. He won the TBC Broadcasting Awards for Best Male Singer with his song "Only 10,000 Friends." In 1983, he achieved great success by winning the MBC Top 10 Singers Award and the KBS Best Male Singer Award with his song "Loneliness."

After his divorce from Kim Ja-ok, he faced various difficulties. However, in 1984, he remarried and made a comeback as a singer. In 1987, he began his final challenge as a singer at the historic Triangular Mountain Gyeongguksa Temple and devoted himself to composing. However, a year later, in January 1989, he immigrated to the United States and briefly worked as a DJ for the Korean radio station Radio Korea in Los Angeles.

He returned to South Korea in February 1990 and resumed his performance-related activities. In 1996, his song "Regarding Romance," which expressed the emptiness of life and the lingering feelings about time passing by, was featured in the drama "Men from the Public Bathhouse," gaining tremendous popularity and love. Choi Baekho has received immense love from the public for a long time.
