조용필 선생님은 대한민국의 가수로, 1950년 3월 21일에 경기도 화성군(현 화성시) 송산면 쌍정리에서 태어나셨습니다. 선생님의 본관은 임천이시며, 1969년에는 경동고등학교를 25회로 졸업하신 후, 컨트리 웨스턴 그룹 애트킨즈의 리더이자 기타리스트로 활동하시다가 '화이브 핑거스'를 결성하여 1969년에 미 8군 무대에 데뷔하셨습니다.
1971년에는 김대환, 조용필, 최이철을 주축으로 결성된 3인조 음악 그룹 김트리오로 본격적인 락 음악 활동을 시작하셨습니다. 이후 1972년에는 연주앨범 '드럼! 드럼! 드럼! 앰프키타 고고!'를 발매하셨고, 수록곡 "Lead Me On"이 선데이 서울컵 팝그룹 콘테스트 최우수상을 수상하셨습니다.
1975년 솔로 가수로 전향하여 트로트 음악을 발표하였습니다. 〈돌아와요 부산항에〉가 전국민적인 인기로 역사적인 히트곡으로 기록되었습니다. 이곡은 재일교포 고국방문과 맞물려 발표되었는데, 부산에서부터 인기가 시작되어 전국적으로 퍼졌으며, 선생님의 이름이 본격적으로 알려진계기가 되었습니다. 이후 조용필 선생님은 수 많은 히트곡을 발표하시며 대한민국 음악계의 거물로 자리매김하게 되었고, 한국 내 최대 콘서트 인원 동원 기록을 세우기도 했습니다. 또한 예술의 전당에서는 7년 연속으로 공연을 펼치면서 국민적인 사랑을 받았습니다.
1979년, 대한민국 가요계에 공식 데뷔한 조용필은 1977년 대마초 파동으로 인해 활동 중단을 경험하였습니다. 그러나 해금 조치 이후 지구레코드와 전속계약을 맺고, 1979년 현재의 그룹 '위대한 탄생'을 결성하여 정규 1집 음반 수록곡인 "창밖의 여자"를 발표했습니다. 이 곡은 대한민국 최초로 밀리언셀러인 100만장 이상 판매된 앨범에 수록되어 대한민국 가요계 최고의 히트메이커로 성장하였습니다.
1986년부터 1988년까지는 일본에서도 인기를 얻으며 "모나리자"와 "서울 서울 서울" 등의 곡으로 엔카의 황제로 불리게 되었습니다. 조용필은 락, 발라드, 트로트, 민요 등 대한민국 대중음악 거의 모든 장르를 소화하여 연령층을 넓게 확보하였으며, 오빠부대라 불리는 젊은 여성 팬층을 이끌기도 했습니다. 그러나 1985년 조폭 출신 김 모씨로부터 폭행을 당하는 등 위험한 상황에서 활동을 이어나가야 했으며, 경찰은 보디가드 5명을 배치하여 조용필의 안전을 보장해야 했습니다.
1988년에는 10집 음반을 발표하여 "서울 서울 서울"과 "모나리자"를 비롯한 여러 히트곡을 내놓았습니다. 특히 "서울 서울 서울"은 1988년 서울올림픽 폐막식에서 전 세계에 방영되면서 대중들의 사랑을 받았습니다. 조용필은 이 곡을 만들게 된 계기로 "올림픽이 끝나면 우리 사회가 우울해질 것이라고 생각해서"라고 밝혔습니다.
1980년대 후반에는 김동건 아나운서에게 '조용필군'이라고 호명되며 미스코리아 선발대회를 몇 회에 걸쳐서 거의 고정 출현하였습니다. 축하곡을 부르기도 하였으나 드레스를 입은 무대 뒤쪽 계단 위에 여성들 중에서 미스코리아 진선미(眞善美) 최종 후보에게만 손을 내밀고 1명씩 계단 아래 무대로 에스코트하는 역할을 수행하였습니다.
1993년~1994년, 교통사고 그리고 음반 판매량 1천만장 돌파, 결혼과 재혼
1993년 12월 1일 오전 1시 50분 인근 술집에서 문화일보 기자 권모 기자와 함께 술을 마신뒤 서울 강남구 역삼동 대동은행 앞길에서 음주 상태에서 밴츠 승용차를 몰고가다가 빗길에 미끄러져 교통사고를 당했습니다. 이에 서초경찰서는 무면허 음주운전 혐의로 불구속 입건했습니다. 조용필은 1994년에 대한민국 최초로 음반 판매량 1000만장을 기록했습니다. 일본에서의 앨범판매량 역시 공식적으로 600만장이 넘어 한류의 시초로 평가받습니다. 그리고 한국과 일본에서 오가며 활동을 해오고 있고 지금까지 총 18장의 정규 앨범을 발표하였으며 가장 최근의 앨범은 2003년에 발매한 18집 《OVER THE RAINBOW》(비정규앨범은 2009년에 발매한 《2008년 조용필 40주년 콘서트 기념 앨범 "THE HISTORY 킬리만자로의 표범"》)입니다. 조용필 이후로 가요의 음반 판매량이 외국 음반 판매량을 넘어서게 되었습니다. 데뷔 이래 현재까지 조용필의 히트곡은 다른 가수들 보다 더 많다고 알려져 있습니다. 1983년에 미술교사 박지숙과 결혼하였으나 5년만에 이혼하였고 1994년 재미교포 성공한 사업가 안진현과 63빌딩에서 세기의 결혼식을 하였습니다. 하지만 결혼 9년차 2003년, 급성 심근경색으로 심장병에 걸려 투병 중이던 부인을 잃는 슬품을 겪었습니다.
2013년에 조용필은 10년 만에 발매한 앨범 "Hello"로 돌아왔습니다. 조용필과 위대한 탄생은 2011년 전국 투어 콘서트 이후, 2013년 4월 23일, "Hello" 앨범의 수록곡 중 하나인 "Bounce"가 선공개되어 음원 차트에서 1위를 차지하며 조용필의 귀환을 알렸습니다. 이 앨범이 매진되었습니다. 일주일 뒤인 4월 23일, 타이틀 곡 "Hello"와 나머지 8곡이 공개되었습니다. 이로 인해 음원 차트에서 1위를 차지하며 음반 판매도 호조를 보였습니다. 조용필의 정규 앨범 'Hello'는 음반 시장의 침체기에도 불구하고, 조용필 팬뿐만 아니라 10대, 20대를 포함한 수천명 이상의 팬들이 음반 매장 앞에서 긴 줄을 서며 구매 대기하는 등 대단한 인기를 얻었습니다.
그 후, "Bounce"는 빌보드 K-Pop 차트에서 1위를 차지하였고, 뮤직뱅크에서 5위에 올라선 등 다시 한 번 그의 저력을 과시하였습니다. 5월 3일에는 23년 만에 지상파 가요순위 프로그램 정상에 오르며, 11월 22일에는 엠넷 아시안 뮤직 어워드에서 올해의 노래상을 비롯한 3개 부문 대상을 수상했습니다. 그리고 12월 20일, 뮤직뱅크 2013 연말결산 차트 1위를 차지하며, 조용필의 대단한 성과가 인정받았습니다.

Cho Yong-pil is a South Korean singer who was born on March 21, 1950 in Ssangjeong-ri, Songsan-myeon, Hwaseong-gun, Gyeonggi-do. The teacher's main building is Imcheon, and after graduating from Gyeongdong High School 25 times in 1969, he worked as a leader and guitarist of the country Western group Atkins, and formed Hwive Fingers and made his debut on the U.S. 8th Army stage in 1969.
In 1971, Kim Trio, a three-member music group formed by Kim Dae-hwan, Cho Yong-pil, and Choi Yi-chul, started his rock music career in earnest. Then in 1972, he released his performance album, "Drums!" Drum! Drum! Amplifier Kitta Go Go!' In 1982, 'Boohwal' released their debut album 'Volume 1' and the title track "Heeya" became a huge hit. In the same year, they participated in the Sunday Seoul Cup Pop Group Contest and won the grand prize with their song "Lead Me On"!

However, in 1985, he had to continue his activities in dangerous situations, such as being assaulted by Kim, a former gangster, and the police had to deploy five bodyguards to ensure Cho Yong-pil's safety.
In 1988, he released his 10th album and released several hit songs, including "Seoul Seoul Seoul" and "Mona Lisa." In particular, "Seoul Seoul Seoul" was loved by the public when it was aired around the world at the closing ceremony of the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Cho Yong-pil said, "I think our society will be depressed after the Olympics."
In the late 1980s, announcer Kim Dong-gun was called "Cho Yong-pil" and almost appeared in the Miss Korea contest several times. He also sang a congratulatory song, but among the women on the stairs behind the stage in the dress, he reached out to the final candidate of Miss Korea Jin Sun-mi and escorted one by one to the stage below the stairs.

In 1994, he married Ahn Jin-hyun, a successful Korean-American businessman, at the 63 Building. Sadly, in 2003, during his ninth year of marriage, he suffered from acute myocardial infarction and lost his wife, who was fighting against it.
In 2013, Cho Yong-pil returned with his first album in 10 years, "Hello." Cho Yong-pil and the great birth announced Cho's return after the 2011 national tour concert, on April 23, 2013, when "Bounce," one of the tracks on the "Hello" album, was pre-released and topped the music charts. This album is sold out. A week later, on April 23, the title track "Hello" and the other eight songs were released. As a result, it topped the music charts, and album sales were also strong. Despite the slump in the music market, Cho Yong-pil's full-length album "Hello" gained huge popularity, with thousands of fans, including teenagers and 20s, waiting in long lines in front of the music store.
After that, "Bounce" once again showed off his potential by topping the Billboard K-Pop chart and reaching number five on Music Bank. On May 3, it topped the terrestrial music ranking program for the first time in 23 years, and on November 22, it won the grand prize in three categories, including Song of the Year, at the Mnet Asian Music Awards. And on December 20, Cho Yong-pil's great achievements were recognized by topping the Music Bank 2013 year-end settlement chart.
