조용필은 1950년 3월 21일에 경기도 화성군(현 화성시) 송산면 쌍정리에서 태어났으며, 임천 본관입니다.
1969년에 경동고등학교를 25회 졸업하고, 컨트리 웨스턴 밴드인 애트킨즈에서 리더와 기타리스트로 활동한 후, 1969년에 "Five Fingers"라는 밴드를 결성하여 미 8군 무대에서 데뷔하였습니다. 1971년 조용필, 김대환, 최이철로 결성한 팀으로 본격적인 록 음악을 기반으로 활동하였고, 1972년에는 '드럼! 드럼! 드럼! 앰프키타 고고!'라는 연주앨범을 발매하였습니다. 수록곡 "Lead Me On"이 선데이 서울컵 팝그룹 콘테스트 최우수상을 수상하였으며, 이후 '여학생을 위한 뮤지칼 사랑의 일기'라는 앨범에 "님이여", "사랑의 자장가", "케사라", "하얀 모래의 꿈" 등을 녹음하게 되었습니다. 이는 사실상 조용필의 노래가 들어간 첫 앨범이었으며, 이때 KBS 라디오 드라마 주제곡 "돌아오지 않는 강"도 녹음하였습니다.

조용필씨는 1972년에 "그룹 25시"를 결성하여 활동하였으며, 1973년에는 방위병으로 소집되어 해안경비병으로 복무하였습니다. 복무 중에도 퇴근 후 음악 활동을 계속하며, 1974년 경 "조용필과 그림자"라는 그룹을 결성하였습니다. 1975년 솔로로 데뷔하며 발표 한 곡 "돌아와요 부산항에"의 인기에 차츰 알려지기 시작했습니다. 이 노래는 당시 재일교포 고국방문과 맞물려 발표되어 부산에서부터 인기가 시작되어 전국적으로 퍼지면서 조용필씨의 이름이 본격적으로 알려지게 되었습니다.

1977년 대마초 소동으로 인한 공백기를 갖게 된 후, 이후에 지구레코드에서 전속 계약으로 1979년 '위대한 탄생'을 결성하여 지금의 그룹이 되었습니다. 정규 1집 음반 수록곡 "창밖의 여자"를 발표하여 대한민국 최초로 100만장 이상 팔린(밀리언 셀러) 단일 음반이 되었으며, 이후 내놓는 앨범마다 히트하면서 1980년대 최고의 히트 가수로 자리 잡았습니다.

조용필씨는 수많은 히트곡과 명곡을 남기며, 대한민국 대중음악계의 거장으로 평가받고 있습니다. 그의 음악은 많은 이들에게 위로와 감동을 전하며, 그의 국민적인 인기는 영원히 기억될 것입니다.

Cho Yong-pil is a South Korean singer who started his career in the 8th U.S. Army and debuted in 1975 with "Come Back to Busan Port." He has the record for performing a number of popular songs, seven consecutive years at the Seoul Arts Center, and the largest concert audience in Korea.

Cho Yong-pil was born on March 21, 1950 in Ssangjeong-ri, Songsan-myeon, Hwaseong-gun, Gyeonggi-do (now Hwaseong-si), and is the main building of Imcheon.
He graduated from Kyungdong High School 25 times in 1969, worked as a leader and guitarist for the country Western band Atkins, and in 1969 formed a band called Five Fingers to debut on the U.S. Eighth Army stage. In 1971, Cho Yong-pil, Kim Dae-hwan, and Choi Yi-chul formed a team based on full-fledged rock music, and in 1972, Drum! Drum! Drum! Amp Kitta Go Go! released a performance album. The track "Lead Me On" won the Sunday Seoul Cup Pop Group Contest Grand Prize, and later recorded "My Dear," "Lullaby of Love," "Kesara," and "Dream of White Sand" on the album "Musical Love Diary for Girls." It was actually Cho Yong-pil's first album with a song, and he also recorded the theme song of the KBS radio drama "The River That Doesn't Return."

Cho Yong-pil formed the "Group 25 o'clock" in 1972 and was called up as a defense guard in 1973 to serve as a coast guard. He continued his music career after work while serving, and formed a group called "Cho Yong-pil and Shadows" around 1974. The popularity of the song "Come Back to Busan Port," which debuted as a solo in 1975, gradually became known. The song was released in conjunction with the visit of Korean-Japanese nationals to their homeland at the time, and its popularity began in Busan and spread nationwide, and Cho Yong-pil's name became known in earnest.

After having a hiatus in 1977 due to the cannabis disturbance, it later formed the "great birth" in 1979 under an exclusive contract at earth records, becoming the group it is now. It became Korea's first single album to sell more than 1 million copies (million seller) by releasing the first full-length album "Woman Out the Window," and became the greatest hit singer of the 1980s with each album released since then.

Cho Yong-pil is considered a master of Korean pop music, leaving numerous hit songs and masterpieces. His music conveys comfort and emotion to many people, and his national popularity will be remembered forever.

Cho Yong-pil's 16th album, "Song of the Wind," released in 1997, is written by Kim Soon-gon and composed by Kim Jung-wook, and is the most popular song in this album. The song was also presented at a great birth concert with Cho Yong-pil in 2011, and it received great attention from the media at a time when the adult music market was in a slump, reaching the top of the charts.
