조용필은 경기도 화성군(현 화성시) 송산면 쌍정리에서 태어나셨으며, 본관은 임천입니다. 그는 1969년에 경동고등학교를 25회로 졸업하였고, 컨트리 웨스턴 그룹 애트킨즈의 리더이자 기타리스트로 활동하다가 1969년에 '화이브 핑거스'를 결성하여 미 8군 무대에 데뷔하셨습니다. 1971년부터는 김대환, 조용필, 최이철로 구성된 3인조 음악 그룹 김트리오로 락 음악 활동을 본격화하였습니다. "드럼! 드럼! 드럼! 앰프키타 고고!"라는 연주 앨범을 선보였고, 거기서 "Lead Me On"은 선데이 서울컵 팝그룹 콘테스트에서 최우수상을 차지하며 주목받았습니다.

그 후 '조용필과 그림자'라는 그룹을 결성하게 되었으며, 1975년에는 솔로로 활동을 시작하여 "돌아와요 부산항에"라는 트로트 음악으로 히트를 기록하며 명성을 얻게 되었습니다. 조용필은 다양한 장르의 음악을 소화해 내며 대한민국의 대중음악을 대표하는 가수로 성장하였습니다.

The South Korean singer Cho Yong-pil was born on March 21, 1950. He began his career performing on the MI8 stage in 1969 and made his official debut in 1975 with the song "Come Back to Busan Harbor." Subsequently, he achieved numerous hit songs, set records for attracting the largest concert audiences in South Korea, and held a seven-year streak of performances at the Seoul Arts Center.

Born in Songjeong-ri, Ssangjeong-ri, Hwaseong-gun (now part of Hwaseong city) in Gyeonggi Province, Cho Yong-pil graduated from Kyungdong High School as part of the 25th class in 1969. He initially engaged in country-western music as the leader and guitarist of the group Atkins. However, he formed the band "Five Fingers" in 1969 and debuted on the MI8 stage. In 1971, he formed the trio group "Kim Trio" with Kim Dae-hwan and Choi Lee-chul, delving into rock music. Their instrumental album "Drum! Drum! Drum! Amplifier Gogo!" 

From 1986 to 1988, he expanded his activities to Japan, achieving remarkable success with the album "Chu-eokui Mia 1," which sold over a million copies and earned him the Golden Disc Award. Hit songs like "Seoul Seoul Seoul" and "Mona Lisa" contributed to his position as a leading figure in the South Korean music scene, competing with various artists.

Cho Yong-pil achieved the milestone of surpassing 10 million album sales through consistent efforts. He continued his activities both domestically and internationally, maintaining his popularity among a wide range of age groups.
