김추자 님은 1951년 1월 2일, 강원도 춘천시 효자동에서 태어나셨습니다. 춘천여자고등학교를 졸업하신 후, 응원단장으로 활약하시며 강원도 배드민턴과 기계체조에서도 뛰어나신 선수이시죠. 또한, 춘천향토제에서 전통 창인 〈수심가〉를 불러 3위에 입상하셨습니다. 동국대학교 연극영화학과에 진학하시며 배우 꿈을 키우셨고, 1973년에 학사 학위를 취득하셨습니다.

신중현 선생님께서 작곡하신 김추자 님의 대부분 음악은 한국적인 록이었습니다. 그 당시 유행하던 트로트와는 차별화된 현대적이면서도 한국적인 요소를 담은 음악들이었죠. 데뷔곡 〈늦기 전에〉는 처음에는 소울과도 같지만 후반부에는 판소리 창법이 도입되어, 독특하면서도 매력적인 노래로 사랑받았습니다.

김추자 님은 가창력과 섹시한 춤으로 1970년대에 큰 인기를 얻으셨습니다. 그녀의 인기는 ‘담배는 청자, 노래는 추자’라는 유행어까지 만들어내기도 했습니다. 그러나 1975년 4월 긴급조치 9호인 가요 규제조치 발표 이후 그녀의 모든 노래는 금지곡으로 묶였으며, 김추자 님과 함께한 여러 가수들은 가수활동을 전면 금지받았습니다. 그 후 여러 차례의 재기를 시도했으나 실패하시다가, 1988년 컴백하시면서 [세월만 가네]이라는 노래로 성공적인 컴백을 하셨습니다.

이렇게 뛰어난 김추자 님은 대한민국 음악계의 중요한 역할을 하셨습니다. 지금도 많은 후배들이 노래를 들으며 감동 받았고, 앞으로도 여전히 그녀의 음악을 리메이크하며 기리고 존경하고 있습니다.

Born on January 2, 1951 in Hyoja-dong, Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, Kim Chu-ja has a unique background. After graduating from Chuncheon Girls' High School, he played as a cheering squad leader and was also an excellent player in badminton and mechanical gymnastics in Gangwon-do. In addition, he won third place at the Chuncheon Local Festival by singing the traditional spear "Susimga." He studied theater and film at Dongguk University and dreamed of becoming an actor and earned a bachelor's degree in 1973.

Most of Kim Chu-ja's music composed by Shin Jung-hyun was Korean rock. The music was containing modern and Korean elements that were different from the trot that was popular at the time. The debut song "Before It's Late" is like a soul at first, but Pansori singing method was introduced in the second half, and it was loved as a unique and attractive song.

Kim Chu-ja became very popular in the 1970s for her singing ability and sexy dance. Her popularity even coined the buzzword, 'Cigarette is a listener, song is a dance.' However, since the announcement of K-pop regulations in April 1975, all of her songs have been banned, and several singers with Kim Chu-ja have been banned from singing altogether. After that, he tried to make a comeback several times but failed, but he made a successful comeback in 1988 with the song "Time goes by".

Kim Chu-ja played an important role in the Korean music industry. Even now, many juniors are moved by listening to the song, and I still remember and respect her music.
