1983년에 발표한 "나는 행복한 사람"과 1984년의 2집 앨범 "파랑새"로 인지도를 쌓았으며, 1985년에 이영훈과의 협업으로 "난 아직 모르잖아요"라는 곡으로 폭발적인 인기를 얻었습니다. 이후 이문세와 이영훈의 콤비는 80년대의 가요계를 주도하며 팝 발라드 물결을 일으켰습니다.
